Time flies! I haven’t realized that we already reached the mid-point of fall semester. Looking back at the content we learned, I am veryt looking forward to the next half of our class. Reviewing the class, we have immersed both in technical and critical sphere.
For the technical aspect, we touched on some of the fundamental concepts in R programming languages. In R languages, we start from the basic structure of the dataframe/datasets and some basic operations such as defining vectors, assigning values to vectors, understanding different data types, and so on. Furthermore, we also learn how to use functions, statement, wvectors, symbols to handle various kinds of data analysis problems. In using function like ttest, histogram, R can help us in understanding the dataframe and the overall structure. Also, the logical vectors is fairly important to mention about. In adding them, we can structure richer statement or orders to operate in the analysis.
For the critical readings, we have read many materials and book chapters in regarding to the use of data in strenthening power equality, the historical roots of higher institutions and the archives. For the book data feminism and some related materials, we understand the embedded power disparity in the former development of techonologies and informations. The strucutral inequality and the advancement of IT/data grow together. In historical readings and archives, we personally experienced the unspoken history of Bates college and the complicated but precious achieve files. Which builds in more connections between the community and social problems.
I am excited to learn more about both “technique” and “critique” in the coming weeks so let the data speak!
