Reflection 1

My past coding experience is kind of meandering. My experience started on high school—which is not really a good memory for me. I started coding with Java on an AP computer science class. At first, I thought it was intriguing beacuse of its calculating power and the output after a flash of running process. But later on, as I encountered some abstract concepts and complicated tasks, I leaped out the coding journey and have a bad impression on my first period of experience. I haven’t took any computer science until I came to Bates college. The one course get me interested in is DCS 105 Calling Bullshit. From that course, I get to re-enter the journey of coding. In 105, I get to learn how to apply the computational tool-programming language to the real-life problems rather than abstract fuctions and algorithm. The most rewarding part is realizing the final project-in which I remake a visualization of Covid-19 vaccine distributions between companies and countries worldwide from an inefficient visualization post on Economist. To see the code running smoothly and display the beantiful plots make me feel satisified. This is the site I created from the last DCS course which reignite my passion into coding and make the data “speak”! However, on the way achieving the goal, challenging part can be the errors encountered in the lines. Sometimes it’s hard to notice and may cost you a lot of time to get your code fixed.

In the next a few weeks, I hope I can learn more coding techniques through this DCS course and strengthen my understanding of data and its analysis.
